Server & Network Solution Design

A solution design phase in front of actual server or network implementations asks the critical questions one should ask of any business solution and then plans the implementation to meet current and future needs.  For example:

• Capacity Planning: 
  
  • For how many people will the network or server solution provide services?
  • What is the projected growth of the company over this time?
• Use Case Analysis:
  • What purposes will the server solution serve?
  • What security requirements exist?
• Network Accessibility:
  • From where must these resources be accessible, on premises?  Remotely accessible?

We are, of course, only scratching the surface.  A thorough assessment of each solution assures that whatever you are implementing (a) is compatible with what you may already have in place, (b) is not adding redundancy to pre-existing business processes, and (c) will actually meet the perceived needs of the business and perhaps more importantly be used once installed.
